Fee breakdown
What fees does Etsy charge?
Etsy's fees stack in layers — four of them apply to a typical sale:
-
Listing fee $0.20 per listing, charged again each time the item sells or the listing renews.
-
Transaction fee 6.5% of the full order — including shipping and gift wrap, not just the item price.
-
Payment processing Varies by your bank-account country; in the US it's 3% + $0.25 per order.
-
Offsite Ads 12–15% on sales that come from Etsy's external ads. Mandatory and can't be turned off once you pass $10k in a year.
Why your real Etsy fees are higher than 6.5%
The headline 6.5% is only the transaction fee. Three things push the real rate higher:
-
Shipping is charged too The 6.5% applies to the whole order, so $8 of shipping adds about $0.52 in fees. Baking "free shipping" into your price doesn't avoid it.
-
Fixed fees hit small orders hardest A $0.20 listing fee plus $0.25 processing on a $5 item is already 9% — before any percentage fees.
-
Offsite Ads nearly doubles the rate A normal sale runs about 10–13%; the same sale through an Offsite Ad adds 12–15%, pushing it past 25% of the order.
What sets your margin is your effective fee rate — the all-in total — not the headline 6.5%.
Etsy fees by order value
What a US seller actually pays as the order grows (Offsite Ads off):
| Order value | Total fees | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $1.40 | 14.0% |
| $25.00 | $2.83 | 11.3% |
| $50.00 | $5.20 | 10.4% |
| $100.00 | $9.95 | 10.0% |
Cheaper orders pay a higher effective rate because of the fixed listing and payment fees. Offsite Ads adds its rate on top of every row.
How the calculation works
A $28 candle with $5 shipping, sold by a US seller. Same item, same price — the traffic source nearly triples the fee.
How to lower your effective Etsy fees
You can't change Etsy's rates, but you can change how much of your sales they touch:
-
Rank organically to rely less on Offsite Ads Strong Etsy SEO brings traffic you don't pay an ad fee on — the single biggest lever.
-
Raise your average order value Bundles and higher prices shrink the share taken by the fixed fees.
-
Rethink very cheap items Sub-$10 listings carry the highest effective rate — bundle them or raise the price.
-
Opt out of Offsite Ads under $10k If your trailing 12-month sales are under $10k, you can turn Offsite Ads off entirely.

Etsy fees: FAQ
Around 10–13% of a typical order once the listing, transaction and payment processing fees are combined — and 25% or more when the sale comes through Offsite Ads.
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the full order total, including the shipping and gift wrap you charge — not just the item price.
Only while your trailing 12-month sales are under $10k, where you can opt out. At or above $10k, Offsite Ads is mandatory, though the rate drops to 12%.
Payment processing depends on the country of your Etsy Payments bank account — for example UK 4% + £0.20, or Germany and France 4% + €0.30 — so it varies from one seller to another.
Fee values are confirmed against Etsy's public fee policy and are correct for 2026. Offsite Ads and currency conversion are optional scenarios and are only included when you switch them on. The $10/month Etsy Plus subscription does not change per-sale fees and is not included here.
