We burn quite a bit of wood in our firepit, and usually have to guess as to how dry the wood is. Getting it wrong can result in the wood giving off smoke which is not ideal for people sitting around it. Having this gadget is great because it helps me quickly and accurately check the moisture content so I get to burn only dry wood. I also took the opportunity to see what readings it would give in the inside walls of our garage, one of which we knew was once damp.

The reading for that wall went off the scale, although I imagine this is down to the salt efflorescence still in the plaster (which is going to be removed), rather than the wall being damp. It’s very easy to use and has four measurement modes which are wall, masonry, soft wood, hard wood. It can penetrate to a depth of 19mm which should be sufficient for most uses. Doubt it would give an accurate reading if using it on walls covered in plasterboard dot and dab.

It’s powered by a single 9v PP3 battery which is supplied. Was nice to see meter come with a nice cloth pouch.

I needed a pinless meter but none of them have a setting for plasterboard. The LASELION Moisture Meter still performs well for wood and masonry though. The large LCD display is very readable, and the overall build is sturdy. It would be perfect if it had a plasterboard mode.

I'm a contractor and I’ve used plenty of moisture meters over the years. The LASELION non-destructive tester is surprisingly good for its low price. Worked well on different surfaces from wood to masonry, and I appreciate not having to deal with pins damaging materials. The only downside is that it doesn't have a specific mode for drywall, but otherwise, it’s solid.
